Chimney Crown Repair & Replacement in Central Pennsylvania
What Is a Chimney Crown and Why Does It Fail?
The chimney crown is the concrete or mortar cap that covers the top of the chimney structure, leaving only the flue opening exposed. It directs rain away from the masonry and protects the brick from water saturation. Most chimney crowns crack over time because they were built with the wrong mortar mix — ordinary mortar cannot handle the thermal cycling and freeze-thaw stress at the top of a chimney.
We remove deteriorated crowns and pour properly formulated reinforced concrete crowns designed to last. For smaller cracks, elastomeric crown coatings provide an effective and economical repair.
- Full crown removal and replacement
- Reinforced concrete crown construction
- Elastomeric crown sealant for minor cracks
- Proper overhang to direct water away
- Paired with cap installation for complete protection
